SUMMARY:Herb Planter Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Plant your own herb garden (in a large container) for your front step\, balcony or backyard. This workshop is perfect for herb lovers\, new gardeners\, foodies and home-cooks and anyone looking to increase their herb growing and preserving skills or culinary use of herbs. Participants will learn about growing and caring for herbs in containers. Preferred preservation techniques (drying/freezing/fresh use) will be reviewed along with tips and ideas for using more herbs in your home cooking. Participants can select their preferred herbs and edible flowers (from a variety of farm-grown plants include thyme\, parsley\, sage\, basil\, lemon balm\, mint\, chives\, nasturtium and calendula etc). \nAll supplies are provided with registration including take-home information\, the large planter of herbs (that you can reuse the following year) and a summer supply of organic fertilizer to keep your herbs healthy. Feel free to bring your favourite garden gloves if you prefer to keep your hands clean. \nParticipants are invited to stay for a guided tour of our on-farm herb gardens. \nOnline payment ($45 plus tax per person) and pre-registration is required. Limited to 7 people.

DESCRIPTION:Intro to Hide Tanning \nInstructor: Maggie Oickle with Maggie’s Natural World \nWhen: June 10th & 11th (two separate classes) **10:00am – 3:00pm** \nWhere: Ross Farm Museum\, 4568 Highway #12\, New Ross\, NS \nCourse description: Join Maggie Oickle for an Introduction to Hide tanning! She will be breaking down the process with her visual step-by-step guide to show you how to go\, start to finish\, turning hides into leather. As you go through the day and information\, you will have some examples of hides in various stages\, and the tips and tricks that will help you in your hide tanning journey. She will also touch base on other types of hides\, and some similarities and differences she has come across between deer\, rabbit\, cow\, coyote\, and bear hides as she works with them. You will also go over the tools required\, and some startup items\, as well as have an opportunity to stretch a hide yourself as you go into the afternoon. This is a reduced-cost workshop\, as it is the summer\, there are burn bans\, which means the hands-on portion is a little less than our winter workshops. \nWhat you need to bring: We will be inside\, please feel free to bring paper and pen. We will have some extras. Maggie will have the information available in digital copy or hard copy for purchase the day of the event\, as well. \nRefreshments: There will be a coffee and tea bar set up for you to enjoy in the museum gift shop for purchase\, with some light refreshments provided by Maggie. \nPrice: $100/per person\, and $75 for a second seat!
