Christmas Festival Thank You!

The 22nd New Ross Christmas Festival is over with for another year. The weatherman and Mother Nature provided12310520_10154448693154899_2391647064510781171_n  us with a wonderful weekend, and hundreds of people took advantage. The festival started with the Legion’s potluck supper on Friday evening, and was followed by the lighting of our beautiful tree and a visit from Santa. And then the children got to enjoy the song and dance entertainment of Razzmatazz.

Thank you to the Turner family, in memory of Leon, for this year’s tree! Thank you to the town crier for kicking off Friday12313680_10154451270854899_7297051489815142751_n night’s tree lighting. And thank you to Efficiency Nova Scotia and the staff of New Ross Home Hardware for once again, sponsoring the LED light exchange. And one more thank you to the O’Leary’s for getting the lights on the tree.

A large crowd started their Saturday morning with a delicious breakfast at the New Ross Fire hall, before visiting the huge craft fair of fifty excellent vendors at the New Ross Consolidated School. As well, additional vendors displayed their wares at the Legion. Many children visited the Family Resource Centre to sample home-made ice cream, make home-made decorations, and enjoy a visit with Santa.

Hundreds of visitors dropped by the Festival ‘Welcome Post’ at the Ross Farm Museum Learning Centre and enjoyed12341046_10153445281567762_3382501560749184049_n the display showing the history of the Christmas tree in New Ross. Our Festival concert, held on Saturday evening at the Anglican church, was an enjoyable evening of local talent; piano solos, Christmas carols, folk music and a few young show-stealers.

The more than a thousand guests who visited the Forties Community Centre for a turkey dinner, enjoyed a filling and delicious meal as always. And our local u-picks were kept very busy the entire weekend, with car after car leaving the community with one or two balsam firs tied on the roof.

A heart-felt thank you to our many New Ross visitors, for enjoying our many wonderful festival events. Thank you to all of the volunteers who worked so hard to make this weekend a success. And thank you to each of the groups and organizations who participated in this year’s festival.

Congratulations to our raffle winners : Hand Made Quilt : Barb Christie, and the Cut  Glass Festival Wreath : Viola Gabriel.
